Jack Stone was born in Baltimore, Maryland, where he studied art as a youth at the Baltimore Museum of Art. Later he attended the then Maryland School of Art and Design in Silver Spring, and in the early 80’s completed an MFA in Painting and Drawing at the University of North Carolina-Greensboro. He worked in the graphic arts field for 15 years, then went into teaching art to all ages from K-5 through elders in extended care homes. In 2006, he began to focus on teaching privately to adults, and continued this until 2014. During all these years, he painted and exhibited as often as time would allow, working through rural landscape, expressionist abstracts, and figurative subject matter. For the last 6 years, he has worked as a “full-time” professional artist. During the last three decades, he has exhibited and sold at Greensboro and regional galleries and various venues such as restaurants, salons, and occasional outdoor shows.
