Biography

I’m a North Carolina native and high school visual arts and pottery teacher at Eastern Alamance High School. I graduated with a BFA from ECU (Interior Design/Drawing) and have advanced certifications in Interior Design and National Board Certification in Art Ed. I own Bottles & Brushes art studio in Mebane, which I operate as a part-time venture.
I gravitate between many processes including traditional Indonesian batik, acrylic painting, illustration, and mixed media collage. I’m drawn to the process of mixed media collage because it’s fresh, playful, loose, and supremely satisfying to use multiple mediums at once, and it quite fits my personality. My work sometimes nods to historical or whimsical themes, taking on a life of its own as I assemble it. My batik work reflects themes of nature, earth, sea, and organic shapes-capturing motion suspended in a moment in time. I approach batik much as I do watercolor- and enjoy the lost wax process of it all. Many of my pieces lately resemble topographic maps with water. I enjoy gravitating between the translucent and opaque...the transient versus the here and now. Using an unlimited range of textures and mediums where there’s no limited expression of just one medium, I’m able to create-my joy and escape.
