Biography

Born in St. Louis, Missouri and raised in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Dave served in the Marine Corps from 1961 to 1966. He studied painting and life drawing at The Pittsburgh Art Institute.
He studied Ceramics and Design at The Kansas City Art
Institute and School of Design. He completed his education at
The University Of Kansas, earning his Bachelor of Fine Arts.
The two juried shows are Quincy Illinois Art Fair in 1959, and
The Taos Art Fair-Fall of 2013.

His first employment was with Special Interest Publications, a division of Meredith Publishing in Des Moines, IA. He worked for several years thereafter as a free-lance designer and illustrator. Winning over ten prestigious awards from The Advertising Federation of Iowa, The Art Director's Club, and PRINT Magazine of New York City, N.Y. During his free-lance years he taught package design and served on the Board of Advisors for Area XI Community College in Ankeny, IA. He served on three Board of Directors, Worked
with teens in Junior Achievement companies in production & sales.

Prior to retiring in 1995, Dave was The Art Director of Vernon Company, (a specialty advertising company) managing a staff of forty people in commercial art, proofreaders, type-setters and production artists. He was also a product manager of injection-molded plastics and creative director.

Dave prefers watercolors, mixed media, and acrylics as his mediums.
As for his subjects, he draws from the scenes which he and his wife see on their travels in the United States and Europe.
He has painted well over 500 paintings in his lifetime. He has his paintings in private collections in Sevrier, France and Heidelberg, Germany. Dave has carved several "folk art" pieces, designed silver jewelry, and carved several mantlepieces.
He is a "Master Woodcarver" in The Grindling Gibbons' Society of America. (Only six in the U.S.) This title is a juried award.

Past vice president of the Santa Fe Archaeological Society.
Dave and his wife, Sallie live in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Hobbies: painting, knapping lithics, metal detecting, and golf.
