Biography

My work explores lived Appalachian culture through the ordinary people, places, objects, traditions, and landscapes that carry memory forward. Working across visual art, folklore, history, and material culture, I am interested in the relationship between people and place, in preserving the stories found in ordinary things, and in where science and spirituality meet in the day-to-day life of ordinary Appalachian people.

My current body of graphite work includes pieces from my Southern Gothic Graphite: Appalachian Portraits of a Waning Culture project, including Telling the Bees, Moonshine Holler, and other works examining Appalachian landscape, domestic life, folk practice, memory, and material culture.
