Type of Work: Acrylic, computer hardware, woven canvas strips, other hardware
I work in 3-D mixed media assemblages. The “Interwoven” and “Transition” series explore how our lives have become completely intertwined with electronic, online life during Covid pandemic lockdown. Of course we all had electronic lives pre-Covid, but that has expanded to include work, school, family gatherings and holidays, and even doctor visits. Also captured is the emotional impact of a year of Covid. Social distancing, masks, isolation, insecurity; but also hope as vaccines become available.
Each piece contains something electronic: personal computer power supply wires, motherboards and daughter cards, and hardware. Each piece contains a woven element, either as the background substrate, or as a foreground. Post-vaccine works are built into a mat, rather than a frame. I have a BFA in studio art (painting and printmaking) from UNC Chapel Hill, and a masters in art therapy from Vermont College. I recently retired after a 40 year professional career. I’ve been painting for 45 years.
My work is currently for sale at 4th Street Art and Frame on Reynolda Road in Winston-Salem.
