| Short Bio | I have been creating and studying art my entire life and have met so many wonderful people because of it. My art has gone in many different directions over the years and that is primarily due to the fact that I can not stand the idea of painting the same things over and over again. Some artists do this very well and make tons of money doing so, but it just has never been my way. Life can become such a routine for us all and I am realizing more and more as I get older that this is one of my most accessible avenues to break away from the mundane and repetitious. Spontaneity has it's place in life and this is where I find it works best for me. Much of my work comes from continual observation of everyday life and my ability to find beauty in everything. By everything, I really mean those things that most people take for granted on a daily basis. I frequently speak to my students about how most people see the world and often challenge them to find those beautiful moments during their own day that folks might take for granted (ie..a beautiful cast shadow from a tree, a young child's curiosity, the way power-lines frame a beautiful sunset, etc..) I then ask that they take a fresh look at these moments from a different perspective in order to make them more interesting for others who can't or who haven't been taught to see past the obvious. See the world differently and the world becomes an ever-changing place each time you view it. Creating art can be a challenge, but I like to think of it as a continual adventure. |
