/Atma Katha/ in the Nepal language means My Story.  It is also the title of a presentation of photographs from Nepal that will be displayed at Studio 2 in Soho Alley, downtown Winston-Salem, beginning December 7, 2007 at the monthly Arts District Gallery Hop.  The photographs were taken over several trips to Nepal by Mr. Brian Perry and Dr. Steven Folmar.  Most of the photographs were taken in the village of Jharuwarasi, which is located in Kathmandu Valley. The photos and the story of the people of Jharuwarasi will be presented by the photographers, both anthropologists.  The people of Jharuwarasi are not only the subjects of the exhibit but will also be the beneficiaries of the proceeds.  The people of Jharuwarasi are low caste and poor but enterprising and industrious.  Their main goal is to achieve greater degrees of development in their community in order to improve their lives.  They have set up a new non-profit organization, locally run, called Animation Nepal, which will be the recipient of proceeds from the exhibit.
/Atma Katha/ is also the working title of a book that will be published by Steven Folmar and Brian Perry, presenting photographs and stories of 52 individuals, each representing one of the 52 households in Jharuwarasi.  The projected publication date is fall of 2008.
